About four inches of snow at home. It's interesting that, when referring to snowfall, the BBC still, rightly, uses the imperial system, especially given that it's otherwise capitulated to the use of metric units on so many fronts. We all still use gallons too: how many ever state the miles per litre that their car will manage?

Fantastic photo!
we still use the proper method of measurement over the pond. Long live the the Empirical system!!!! Now to just cut 23/32" off of this board.
Absolutely Frank - 100mm just doesn't have the same ring as four inches. And who's ever heard of a length of 100mm by 50mm - it's four-by-two, squire.
Coda re. the snow. What is more irritating than the inability of the British infrastructure to cope with a bit of snow, more irritating even than the usual poor communication relating to problems with that infrastructure, is the passion of the British for whingeing. "My plane's delayed." "I can't get to Cornwall." "I've not been given a blanket." "My oil's run out." Plan ahead - fill up your oil in the late autumn; take a blanket; anticipate delays; stay at home rather than jet off. For heaven's sake!
Last rant re. the snow. Why do so many drivers insist on driving at 20mph but still close together, intead of at 60mph but well-spaced? Why do they use the brakes rather than the gears? And why do they insist on going out in rear-wheel drive cars?
